Today UNHCR launched the "Gimme Shelter" at a high profile event supported by Ben Affleck at the United Nations in New York.
Actor-director Ben Affleck and Sir Mick Jagger released the short film to highlight the plight of hundreds of thousands of people forced from their homes in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and shows how UNHCR works on behalf of uprooted people around the world.
The fundraising goal of the `Gimme Shelter' campaign is to help raise US $23 million for the UN Refugee Agency - UNHCR in 2009 to help pay for clean water and emergency humanitarian assistance kits in the region. The video is set to the Rolling Stones' song, "Gimme Shelter," which Sir Mick Jagger donated for use by the campaign.
